Hate to say this but the time has come: just as Mickey and Dimaggio knew when it was time to come out of centerfield and not embarrass themselves in front of the fans, I hope Bernie sees the handwriting on the wall and begins the process of saying goodbye with class.

Maybe Bernie could learn to play 1B and give Jason and Tino some time to get well. This is a plan I wish Torre had explored in spring training.

Of course, in order to do this, the Yanks need a legitimate centerfielder. Just think of what they could get back in a trade if they could offer Giambi and Womack...if only their contracts wouldn't get in the way.

For the first time in a decade, things are not looking up for the Yanks and it's killing me.
