Tim McCarver is a piece of shit

topic posted Sat, May 28, 2005 - 4:15 PM by  Andrew
Agree or disagree?

Personally as a Yankees fan this guy annoys the shit out of me. Whether it is the fact that he was the Mets announcer for so many years or he constantly criticizes and pulls against the Yankees, I hate McCarver and wish FOX baseball would have the courage and wisdom to replace this asshole. Your thoughts are welcome...

    THANK YOU Andrew!!!!

    I've HATED McCarver for YEARS!
Living in Atlanta in the 90's I had to endure that pompous ass every post season. He's WAY to opinionated, he makes some stupid point and keeps repeating it and has an annoying as hell voice.

I loved when Dion threw the water on him : )

Right on John! I wish I had a penny for every time he came up with some dumb theory about what was going to happen next in a game and then was proven 100% wrong within moments. I don't know if he personally has issues with the Yankees and their fans or if he just trying to play up the popular anti-yankees sentiment around the country. One of the most annoying things about McCarver is that he has to criticize everyone, second guess every move, and dissect every play to ridiculous detail. Of course McCarver himself is beyond reproach somehow. Deion may have been a tool in many ways but he was justified in standing up to the arrogant and idiotic Tim McCarver, Deion I salute you!

In the Braves-Twins World Series some Brave made a base running gaff in a scoreless game and that dickwad McCarver kept going on and on for innings about it (even though there was no reason to believe he would have scored had he taken the base).

We were soooo annoyed that we turned down the TV sound and listened to the radio feed the next game. I guess the bottom line is a color commentator is supposed to make insightful remarks about what is going on at the time. McCarver makes inane speculations and criticisms and is hardly affected by what is actually taking place on the field.

        He suck bad!

He's poor at best and is constantly lauded as one of the best in the business. He has a habit of stating the obvious and routinely mispronounces names. His bland, Ned Flanders delivery makes him very unlikable. However, I do like his partner Joe Buck, and Buck's good work makes McCarver look even worse.
Plus, he was a Met announcer so that makes him a piece of shit above all else.

All excellent points, indeed. I would like to add that he makes obvious observations (if that makes sense) that need no mention or explanation.
My second least favorite is Joe Morgan. He, too, has an anti-Yankee slant.

The only ex-ballplayer, who tells it like it is, and is not a shill, is Jim Kaat. McCarver is not liked by many major leaguers, who think that he's a know-it-all a-hole.

Yes, good point. I think those remarks are 'filler' he makes on autopilot while plotting his next insane theory.

Not a big fan of Joe either, although as a Sox fan I've never held anti-Yankee bias against anyone ; )

I just prefer the local announcers, sure they're homers and totally biased but they share our love of team. I used to like the Braves announcers when I lived in Atlanta. They had a great system of rotating the radio and TV guys mid-game. Turner owned both broadcasts and could do so at will. It was nice seeing how various commentators styles contrasted and complemented each other.

I like Sutton with the Braves and Pete but that's about it. I remember watching a game years ago when Blauser played for them and had more errors than most teams combined. He missed a routine grounder and the Carey said, "A rare error by Blauser." I don't think I've watched them again, or at least with the sound turned on.

McCarver announces as if his audience is made up solely of 6 year old Little Leaguers. He treats every play, every angle, every nuance of the game as if he is the only one who understands it and as though you couldn't possibly grasp the obvious with your own two eyes. He'll talk down to his audience and has that haughty attitude that would lead the casual viewer to think that he must have been a great player in his day.

I think most fans enjoy their own home team announcers. I grew up on the Yankees with Phil Rizzuto, Bill White and Frank Messer. Nobody can touch them in my book; but I am obviously prejudiced because of the comfort level they gave to me in my youth. My father loved the previous team of Yankees' announcers, Mel Allen, Red Barber, Phil Rizzuto, and Joe Garagiola. Listening to your home town guys is like having a friend shooting the breeze with you while you are enjoying the game.

When the Yankees used to be on WPIX-11 on TV and also had WABC on the radio, they used to rotate their announcers too. 2 guys would always be in the TV booth and one guy on radio. Or when there was no TV for a game, they would rotate on the radio doing play-by-play and color.

Believe me, it was always more fun listening to kooky old Phil wishing some 80-y/o Yankees fan a Happy Birthday when the game was on the line in the 9th inning than it is listening to McCarver explain to me for the umpteenth time why the rightfielder is playing too shallow "in my opinion." Sorry, Tim, but I'm tuning in to watch the game, not to be inundated with your opinions.

As much as I don't care for McCarver, though, I still think what Dion did with the water was uncalled for and pretty unprofessional.

              Hey Guys,

Your comments were so good I didn't think it fair that we kept them to ourselves, so I copied and pasted the thread to TimMcCaver.com.

(please, please, please let him read it!!)
