Wins and losses. What in the world is going on here? Swept at Baltimore. Set the lineup the way it should be and let's get going.

Re: 4 and 8
Sun, April 17, 2005 - 4:21 PMIt's April... they better get their heads out of spring training mode fast, or maybe a few of them should be sent back to Columbus and bring up the prospects.
This is no way to go after the pennant. Losing to BALTIMORE?

Re: 4 and 8
Sun, April 17, 2005 - 5:49 PMI was at Saturday's and Sunday's game. if You've ever been to Baltimore, there are more Yankee fans iin the stands than there are O's fans. Really disappointing to us all down here. We really need some new Pitching!

Re: 4 and 8
Sun, April 17, 2005 - 8:30 PMGroggus,
You already know my feelings about Torre and how he mishandles pitching staffs. Now, he has a basically "old" staff, that he has misused to the point, where they are not as effective as they once were. They should improve, as the weather warms up, BUT they are not what they were a couple of years ago. (At least Jon Lieber is 3-0) Please get rid of a washed up Mike Stanton!!!
The same is true for some of their hitters, as a couple of them are well over the hill, and should not be playing on an everyday basis. (Wouldn't mind Miguel Cairo back at second base) Again, these old-timers should start improving with the weather.
They have traded away their talented minor leaguers for old "name" players, so there is not that much available in Columbus. In addition, Torre is afraid to give young players playing time. -

Re: 4 and 8
Mon, April 18, 2005 - 11:15 AMyou guys are killing me. 12 games into the season, and you're throwing in the towel? what kind of fans are you?
If I remember correctly, the Yanks sucked last April, and they still won the division. -
-
Re: 4 and 8
Mon, April 18, 2005 - 11:24 AMYeah I agree Pimp lets hold off on the funeral for Yankees 2005. Things are not looking good now but it is way too early. There are too many people sounding like a columnist for the NY Post these days.
-
Re: 4 and 8
Mon, April 18, 2005 - 1:36 PMThanks, PIMP, that's just how I feel. The Yankees sucked last April, and then when they found their identity, they were dominant.
The Boss just gave them a loud public ass-kicking, and that's usually just the thing to fire them up. Time to pound the Sox, flatten the Jays, demolish the Os and crush the Rays, and resume our rightful place atop the Majors.
Bring on the Dodgers already! World Series, here we come! -
-
Re: 4 and 8
Mon, April 18, 2005 - 2:17 PMno one here is throwing in the towel. Silverknight is right that they seem to still be in spring training mode, sabai is right that they will heat up with the weather. Torre has been a genius in the past with lineup changes and inserting players in at the right time. Bring up Buddy Groom! -
-
Re: 4 and 8
Mon, April 18, 2005 - 6:39 PMI'm not throwing in the towel dammit! The Yankees are the only team worthy of the World Series. It's time for the pinstripes to to start playing like the Bronx Bombers and not like the Muts from across town.

-
Re: 4 and 8
Mon, April 18, 2005 - 6:45 PMhey Torre, can we stay with this lineup for a while? Bernie hitting 2nd, A-Rod hitting 5th, Giambi hitting DH and Tino starting at first base.

Re: 5 and 8
Mon, April 18, 2005 - 8:32 PMEven though the pitching was suspect, getting 20 hits and some timely ones was great to see. What was bothersome about tonight was giving up 8 runs to Tampa Bay.
-
-
Re: 5 and 8
Mon, April 18, 2005 - 8:34 PMWTF? 8 runs to TB? The pitching coach better get his people working, dammit. -
-
Re: 5 and 9
Wed, April 20, 2005 - 12:06 PMFinally, they call up Buddy Groom. Hopefully, he can pitch like he did in Florida. Unfortunately, he's replacing Tanyon Sturtze, who goes on the disabled list due to overuse.
Speaking of the disabled list, the Muts got smart, and they put my favorite, Felix Heredia, on the DL. -

Re: 6 and 9
Wed, April 20, 2005 - 7:47 PMGroggus, I hope that you don't mind, but I'm changing the Yankee record, when I post.
I missed the injury to Sierra tonight. How serious was it?
Bernie's injury sure looked like a hamstring, even though the Yankees said it was a "Knee injury". -
-
Re: 6 and 9
Thu, April 21, 2005 - 11:36 AMchanging the score is cool. keeping up with progress!
We should here more about both injuries tonight. I suspect that both are minor. I like the way that both are swinging the bats and Bernie looks good following Jeter.
Great for Groom! I know he will work out in our bullpen. Stanton walked Palmero with the bases loaded over the weekend. You're right, that is abusing the Yankeeeeees. -
-
Re: 6 and 9
Fri, April 22, 2005 - 3:45 PM7 and 9. Now last nights game is what I'm talkin' 'bout. Torre managing the situational pitching, Groom gets a big out and F.Rod gets some work. F.Rod, if he gets control and can locate his pitches, he can be a great setup for Rivera. Some tools there for Mel to work with, that's fer sure. -

Re: 7 and 10
Fri, April 22, 2005 - 8:17 PMSome news re pitching:
Jon Lieber is now 4-0 for the Phillies
El Duque is 2-1 (pitched six shut out innings last start for the ChiSox)
Does anyone on the Yankee staff understand pitching??? -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.

Re: 7 and 11
Sun, April 24, 2005 - 4:58 PMI'm spotting a trend I hope continues. We started out 4-8 (.333), and since then have gone 3-3 (.500) to get to 7-11. As long as we improve a little bit each week, we'll win the East again.
"Never quit! Never surrender!" -
-
Re: 8 and 11
Sun, April 24, 2005 - 7:32 PMHard to believe that Torre would start a rookie, isn't it?? Now, let's see how often he lets Andy Phillips play. If he had a brain, he'd play Phillips regularly at first, and use Martinez the same way that Piniella used him in Tampa last season.
Speaking of Tampa, did anyone see the riot at the Red Sox-Tampa game today?? -
-
Re: 8 and 11
Tue, April 26, 2005 - 3:30 PMlet's see, Halsey is gone, Juan Rivera, he gone. Navarro, Thames, who am I missing?
Now is the time to get it going. At home during a short home stand against the team that most predict we will meet in the ALCS. Let's show em who rules. Obviously, I have put behind last Friday and Saturday games. -
-
Re: 9 and 11
Tue, April 26, 2005 - 8:37 PMHmmm, the won-loss pattern changed a bit.
Groggus, don't forget Brandon Claussan, who's doing well with the Reds. There was an interesting article in a local paper here today, where they showed how pitchers improve, once they leave the Yankees. True, Jon Lieber finally lost tonight, but he was beaten by a Nick Johnson home run. (Nick Johnson has the longest hitting streak in the majors this season) -

Re: 9 and 11
Wed, April 27, 2005 - 11:19 AM2 wins in a row, let's keep it going in this direction! -

Re: 9 and 12
Wed, April 27, 2005 - 9:10 PMBack to the abnormal pattern.
Is Moose over the hill also??? -
-
Re: 9 and 12
Wed, April 27, 2005 - 10:33 PMMoose is fine. From 12 runs scored to 1? This is a problem. Thursday is a must win. We must win this series against the Angels!!! -
-
Re: 9 and 13
Thu, April 28, 2005 - 8:34 PMThis will be the first April with a losing record since 1991...
At least Brown looked a bit better... -
-
Re: 9 and 13
Fri, April 29, 2005 - 7:34 AMwhat is going on with the batting order? Womack hitting second? Put him 9th and leave him there or have him lead off, he should hit ahead of Jeter. I prefer Jeter leading off. And why was Bernie out of the lineup last night in a must win game? 1 run 2 games in a row that we could and should have won ? Still spring training for the Yanks. -
-
Re: 9 and 13
Fri, April 29, 2005 - 12:34 PMGroggus, What are you talking about??? You take away ARod's ten rbis the other night, and they only scored two runs in that game. Offensively they are near the bottom of the league this year. -
-
Re: 9 and 14
Fri, April 29, 2005 - 7:11 PMJohnson looked great, and the team is fast asleep. Awaiting Steinbrenner's explosion... -

Re: 9 and 14
Fri, April 29, 2005 - 10:02 PMNew to the tribe.
Sox fan here. I asked to join the tribe since I'm a big fan of the rivalry and having married into some Yankee fans have learned how not to be an ass when need be.
My question is when Sox and Yanks meet again May 27th will they be battling for first or third? (assuming Rays will keep their strangle hold on last).
Niether team has started as I expected with Yankee bats all being hot or cold on the same days, and Sox pitching being even thinner than it looked in Florida. Wells was a big mistake as I'm sure you all realized.

Re: 9 and 14
Fri, April 29, 2005 - 11:02 PMSox fans...that is so sad. The Yankees choked last year and did not follow the rule of nature, and that is "step on the Sox on the way to yet another world series ring." -
-
Re: 9 and 14
Sat, April 30, 2005 - 1:17 PMHey, let's be civil. We can have a good discussion with Sox fans, as long as neither of us act like those two assholes that were in here a few weeks ago.
As a Yankee fan, of course I want to see them win. But as a baseball fan, I think it would be great if neither the Sox or the Yanks win this year. Let the O's have some fun for a change...it's boring when the same team wins every year.
New rivalry: Yankees and Red Sox. Who sucks more? -

Baltimore's won the series recently, relative to the ChiSox:

or the Indians:

How about the Cubs? It's only been 97 years since their

Re: 9 and 14
Sat, April 30, 2005 - 7:43 PMA Baltimore-Chicago Series would be interesting to even casual fans. I didn't even bother to watch the Angels or Marlin World Series. -
-
THANKS, JOHN!
Sat, April 30, 2005 - 10:45 PMWe've had a long run here of Sox fans signing up, and being so rude they've had to be booted. It's nice to see someone who can respect the rivalry and not be horrible about it.
All things being equal, I'd rather have the ALCS be Yankees/Red Sox every year, as the games are always great, and I don't like anyone else in the AL. :)
Then we can take turns pounding the Dodgers in the Series!
(Sorry, that last bit was a tribute to my deceased mother, who was a lifelong Brooklyn Dodgers fan. The year Walter O'Malley broke her heart by moving the team to L.A. [1957] was the last time she watched a baseball game, save one in late October, 1978. Game 6 of the World Series, Yankees 7, Dodgers 2, which gave the Yankees the Crown.)

Re: 9 and 13
Fri, April 29, 2005 - 11:00 PMThe Yankees need a good ass-kicking in the front office. George Steinbrenner needs to be the dark lord he is reputed to be and make things HAPPEN. -
-
Re: 10and 14
Sat, April 30, 2005 - 11:39 PMOnce again, it's proven that they don't need "name" players to win. This guy Wang pitched a wonderful game, and if Torre hadn't chickened out, he might have won the game.
As far as the previous comment re Steinbrenner, this is George's team!!! Nothing happens without his okay. He still thinks that Baseball is the same as football, and he's too old to learn what baseball is all about. -

Re: 10 and 15
Sun, May 1, 2005 - 2:10 PManother series lost, a horrible home stand, I can't believe how this team stinks it up so much. -
-
Re: 10 and 15
Sun, May 1, 2005 - 9:28 PMGroggus,
Would you agree, that it's time to release Stanton, use Williams and Martinez as spot players, and replace them with younger players. This is no longer a "push button" team, and Clueless Joe can not even come close to managing it. -
-
Re: 10 and 15
Sun, May 1, 2005 - 9:40 PMIt sure seems stanton's done, but it seemed that way to me last season. -

Re: 10 and 15
Sun, May 1, 2005 - 10:11 PMI didn't want to be the first one to bring it up but I had been wondering if folks were happy with legs as old as Williams holding down center field.
I watched allot of Braves games when I lived in Atlanta and I thought Stanton was done every season. I still believe he is the reincarnation of Bob Stanley.
Sox still managing to win some but with Foulke's era at 7.50 I'm very worried.

Re: 10 and 15
Mon, May 2, 2005 - 8:50 AMsabai, Stanton is good for 1 batter, maybe 2. Torre is at it again with overuse of the relief staff. Quantrill too! Look at Gordon, he is wasted to the point that he is good for 1 or 2 batters also. This is a MAJOR concern.
I remember saying during spring training that Crosby would be a great replacement for Bernie. I would like to see both playing every day. It can be done.
Tino and Giambi platooning at first is fine but this kid Phillips can hit! I hope they keep him and he is a starter this year or next.
The team just shows up, I don't see the desire except in Jeter of course. Inconsistent bats and a washed up relief staff, this is no way to win the AL East let alone the Pennant and Series.
The bats and Torre better wake up and in a hurry or this season is history.

Re: 11 and 15
Mon, May 2, 2005 - 10:29 PMyes, and Lieber is pitching well, just as he did in the 2nd half and the post season last year -
-
Re: 11 and 15
Tue, May 3, 2005 - 11:05 AMWell, that's the center field problem solved, but I don't know about Womack in left??? Now, what are they going to do about first base?? ((The Sox just signed Olerud two days ago to keep him away from the Yankees)
Torre just doesn't get it about overusing his relievers, does he??? As I have said many times, this 100 pitch count for starters is idiotic!!!
